Being a good listener: as a lawyer, Nicole is a big advocate for that. It helps to clarify the issue. Because it’s only when the issue is crystal clear that she can work, with input from clients and colleagues, to find the right solution.
Nicole tackles complex issues with a sharp mind and legal agility. She specializes in education law and has extensive experience in advising and litigating in this field. Nicole is the primary point of contact for the Education sector, where she and her team support clients through the strength of collaboration and a diversity of perspectives. She is also involved in the Administrative Law practice.
Nicole works for educational institutions ranging from primary to higher education. Youth care and childcare are also among her areas of focus. She is a member of the Dutch Education Law Association, where she co-leads the Governance and Management working group. In addition, she serves, among other roles, as secretary of the Limburg University Fund (SWOL).
Nicole studied Dutch Law at Maastricht University and obtained her PhD in law from Leiden University. From 2001 to 2007, she was a lecturer in constitutional and administrative law at Maastricht University. Since 2007, she has been working as a lawyer at Boels Zanders, and in 2020 she became a partner.
Nicole has authored various publications in the field of education law, including the advisory report “Legal Challenges for Shrinkage-Resilient Education,” articles in School and Law and the Journal of Education Law, and case notes for AB Administrative Law Reports. She also gives guest lectures on education law, including at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and OSR Legal Training.
