Acquisition: Belgian Family Business ToyChamp Acquires Intertoys

The Belgian family business ToyChamp has reached an agreement with Mirage Retail Group regarding ToyChamp’s acquisition of the Dutch toy chain Intertoys. The acquisition is still pending approval from the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM). The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. It is expected that the transaction will be completed in the last quarter of this year. ToyChamp was advised on the acquisition by Boels Zanders.

ToyChamp

Founded in 2001 by CEO Koen Nolmans together with his brothers, ToyChamp is a Belgian family business with 41 toy stores: 15 in Belgium and 26 in the Netherlands. ToyChamp focuses strongly on in-store experiences, with its own mascot Champy, shop-in-shop concepts from well-known toy brands, meet-and-greets with children’s heroes, and interactive demos. ToyChamp is also the majority shareholder of the Belgian toy chain DreamLand, with 48 stores. Both the headquarters and the distribution center are located in Genk.

Intertoys

With more than 200 locations, Intertoys is the largest chain of toy stores in the Netherlands. The first Intertoys store opened in 1976. The management of Intertoys remains unchanged and will continue to be responsible for the daily operations of the toy chain. Since Intertoys and ToyChamp each serve a unique role in the market, there are no plans to change the existing distinctive formulas.
