On July 3, 2024, Shapeways B.V. was declared bankrupt. Jeroen Tulfer, a partner at Boels Zanders, was appointed as the trustee. On August 1, 2024, an agreement was reached with Manuevo B.V. for a restart of Shapeways B.V.
The Eindhoven-based Manuevo B.V. was founded by the local management of Shapeways. For the time being, Manuevo will operate under its own name. With the restart of Shapeways, the Eindhoven production location will remain active. It is expected that 30 of the 53 jobs will be retained.
Shapeways is an online on-demand 3D printing service and marketplace where users can upload their own designs and have them printed in various materials. The platform also offers a marketplace where designers can sell their creations to a global audience. Shapeways is one of the first companies to make 3D printing technology accessible worldwide to consumers and designers.
In addition to the original Eindhoven location, Shapeways was also active in the United States. Shapeways Holdings Inc. was listed on NASDAQ, but the American branch is also bankrupt. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee has been appointed there. Coordination is taking place where possible regarding the handling of the bankruptcies.
