Acquisition: Pierre Rieu acquires Hotel Derlon

Pierre Rieu has acquired both the operation and real estate of Hotel Derlon in Maastricht. Boels Zanders acted as legal advisor in the transaction. The acquisition marks an important step in the expansion of Rieu’s hospitality ventures.

Pierre Rieu previously founded André Rieu Travel, which accommodates tens of thousands of visitors attending the concerts in hotels across the Euregio. The purchase of his own hotel is a logical next step in his entrepreneurial journey.

Hotel Derlon

Hotel Derlon is located on the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, just a stone’s throw from the Vrijthof. The hotel has a rich history and is situated next to the Basilica of Our Lady. Its basement houses archaeological remains of the Roman Via Belgica, which are accessible through its own museum cellar.

Connected to the City

The acquisition is not only strategic from a business perspective but also personal: the hotel is located on an iconic square that welcomes visitors from all over the world each year. The Rieu family has felt a strong connection to both the hotel and former owner Benoît Wesly for many years.

Future Plans

Pierre Rieu intends to carry out a thorough renovation of Hotel Derlon. A revamp of the 50 guest rooms is scheduled for 2026. The acquisition contributes to the preservation of a cultural landmark and strengthens Maastricht’s touristic and economic profile.

“It has always been a dream to run my own hotel – and Derlon is located on the most beautiful square in Maastricht. With this step, I combine my passion for hospitality with my bond with this city.”
